POINT-IN-TIME COUNT
The Point-in-Time (PIT) Count is a federally mandated, time-stamped snapshot of homelessness on a given day—an event that helps define homelessness at that moment.
Every year during the final days of January, Continuum of Cares around the country gather with community partners and volunteers to conduct this annual count of sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness.
Why Do We Count?
The PIT Count helps us understand the state of homelessness in our community. Collecting data on homelessness and tracking progress can inform public opinion, increase public awareness, and attract resources that will aid in our mission to end homelessness.
Interested in Participating?
While the 2021 PIT Count was scaled down to only include essential staff due to COVID-19, we do anticipate returning to our normal volunteer recruitment ahead of the 2022 PIT Count.
Volunteers will receive on-site training prior to the actual count. Changing Homelessness is happy to provide letters confirming service hours for volunteer purposes.
